After a series of M and X class flares yesterday including a major X-8 the sunspot 4366 is still turning with high amounts of magnetic energy. Although not directly aimed at Earth, the shock wave from the X8 will sweep by Earth.
Internet is making its rounds saying this could be the next CARRINGTON event due to the complexity and while space weather is complex and unable to be predicted, it is anybody’s guess.
The amount of cosmic radiation in the solar system right now maybe the culprit and should be taken into consideration.
